Hi Mississippi Gulf Coast! May’s graduation season is in the books and June’s heat is here--we hope that your summer vacation plans are well underway! We are happy to announce some upcoming events, including a continued call for volunteers to help on an exciting local opportunity—revitalizing the Katrina sculptures across the Mississippi Gulf Coast! Keep reading to learn more, and check out the event listing on our website to see what’s next!
We hope to see you in June since we typically don’t hold a dinner meeting in July. We are once again planning to hold our chapter’s Annual Membership meeting in August where we will elect our 2019 Board of Directors. If you are interested in a position on the chapter’s Board, please visit the Chapter Roles page on our website or better yet contact any current Board member to learn more!
Summary of May Events
May Dinner Meeting: Many thanks to Commander Benjamin Wilder, US Navy, LHA Operations Officer at the Supervisor of Shipbuilding Gulf Coast in Pascagoula, Mississippi for his great presentation on Project Management in Shipbuilding: A Difficult Exercise in Modernization. It was extremely interesting and educational. In addition, special thanks go to members who were able to attend the meeting. We sincerely appreciate your support of the chapter and look forward to seeing you again at this month’s meeting.
Katrina Sculptures Revitalization Project Planning Meeting: Several members met in May to begin initial discussions and planning for the project. There were a few action items assigned, such as finalizing the project charter, contacting city officials for approval, and contacting one of the sculptors for his recommended maintenance approach and any other information that should be considered. Our initial approach is to plan and execute the care and maintenance of one sculpture so we can document the best approach and plan the next phases based on our hands-on experience. Much work remains, and we’ll continue to seek your support and involvement.
Coming in June
June Dinner Meeting: Our scheduled guest speaker for the June Chapter Meeting is Michael Adams. Michael is a Cybersecurity Systems Analyst at Huntington Ingalls Industries Inc., Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, MS. He’ll be presenting “Open Source Intelligence: What the Web has on you.” Many people are active users of social media sites like Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram. These companies effectively act as information collectors to create and improve both content and the user experience. However, these are but a small corner of the world of open source intelligence. Please register today and join us on Thursday June 21, 2018 at the Great Southern Club at 5:30 pm. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting!
Upcoming boot camps: We are actively engaged in bringing another PMP boot camp to the Gulf Coast. If you are interested in pursuing your PMP, CAPM or other PMI certification, please contact any Board member directly so we can help support your training needs!
